2. What are the inventions of purses, luggage, handbags, and travelling articles?

Provisions of intellectual property law of Vietnam define an invention as a technical solution that solves a particular mission in our life by applying natural principles. This solution is a set of knowledge and techniques presented in the forms of a technical products, apparatus, equipment or a technical method, process and measure. A technical resolution can be protected in the form of being granted an Invention patent or Utility solution if satisfies the following general requirements:

Based on the nature and characteristics of an invention, it will be classified into different Classes of the International Patent Classification. 3. How to register the inventions of purses, luggage, handbags, and travelling articles in Vietnam?

A registration dossier for inventions of purses, luggage, handbags, and travelling articles generally comprises the papers as below according to the Vietnamese intellectual property law:

- Invention Registration Forms (02 copies made according to the form provided by competent state agencies);

- Request of Invention/utility solution protection (02 copies);

- Description of Invention (02 copies, the Description must present the nature of the registering invention fully and clearly);

- Invention/utility solution summary (02 copies, the summary can be submitted after the submission of the dossier).

- Letter of authorization (if any);

- The receipts of payment of the state fees and charges (if any);

4. Procedures for registration of inventions of purses, luggage, handbags, and travelling articles in Vietnam?

There are two ways to submit the invention registration application. Firstly, the invention registration application can be filed directly at the official office of National Office of Intellectual Property (NOIP) in Hanoi City or representative offices of NOIP in Da Nang City and Ho Chi Minh City. The first way only takes one morning or afternoon to be done. Secondly, the invention registration application can be filed indirectly via postal services of post offices or couriers. This way of submitting takes a long or short time depending on the delivery time.

After receiving the dossier, the NOIP will issue an application number and start to examine the application through the following steps:

First step: The competent state agency will examine the application in terms of its form.

Second step: The competent state agency will publish the application in the Industrial Property Official Gazette if the application is valid.

Third step: The competent state agency will examine the application in terms of the content.

Fourth step: The protection title for the Invention/Utility solution patent will be granted by the competent state agency.
