Trademark registration through the Madrid Agreement

The cost of this method of registration of a trademark is not as expensive as direct registration but it is restricted to the member countries and later on, the mark can only be transferred to the legal entities of the member countries.

The condition for registration under the Madrid Agreement is that you have a Certificate of Trademark Registration issued in Vietnam.

Note

- Time for the examination is 12-14 months;

- Time of protection: 10 years and can be extended many times;

- In each designated country the consideration of the protection afforded by the mark will be subject to the provisions of that country.

The list of countries which are party to the Madrid Agreement include: Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Áo, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Cuba, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Democratic People's Republic of Korea , Egypt, France, Germany, Hungary, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lesotho, Liberia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Moldova, Monaco, Mongolia , Montenegro, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Netherlands , Poland , Portugal , Romania, Nga, San Marino, Serbia and Montenegro, Sierra Leone, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sudan, Swaziland, Switzerland , Syrian Arab Republic, Tajikistan, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Ukraine, and Vietnam.
