Branding of goods and services in Hoi An is a matter of urgency. According to lantern artist Huynh Van Ba, now in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat also has lanterns with Hoi An brand name, but quality problems are difficult to determine. Once the quality is poor, it will definitely affect Hoi An's brand of lanterns. In Hoi An, trademark disputes have also occurred, such as the Pho Hoi trademark dispute. Therefore, in recent years, the city has guided and assisted the production establishments to develop regulations on the use of trademarks and registration procedures at the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam. As a result, products such as swallow's nests, lanterns have been registered trademarks and recently Kim Bong carpentry, Tra Que vegetables.
With the exclusive trademark "Tra Que - Hoi An", the vegetable village has an area of 22ha with 130 households producing more than 4 tons of clean vegetables daily, including more than 20 kinds of leafy vegetables and spices such as houttuynia, Lettuce, broccoli, basil, cilantro, bitter ginger, mustard, cinnamon, etc. for the market and some big supermarkets in the Central and the South of Vietnam. Each year, Tra Que vegetable village sells to the market from 150 to 200 tons, the average income is 18 million VN/sao, 10 times more than rice. This village attracts more than 2 thousand tourists every year through the program "One day working as Tra Que farmers". Currently, Hoi An is planning to expand 10 hectares of production land, set up a separate website and put this traditional vegetable village into the conservation list. Hoi An lanterns after the protection of "collective mark" has over 40 facilities with nearly 250 professional workers. Every year, this "collective" produces about 30,000 lanterns with a turnover of more than 3 billion VND, of which thousands are exported abroad.
In fact, after the registration of exclusive rights protection, the benefits are huge. However, the number of registered trademarks is still relatively small. Mr. Do Dinh Pho, deputy head of the Hoi An Economic Department, said: "The number of registered trademarks is mainly collective trademarks, while the private labels are almost nonexistent. Meanwhile, the processing time to granting the trademark registration certificate is too long. Some manufacturing establishments have not seen any practical benefits from the registration and use of trademarks." Recently, the scientific research project "Building the roadmap for registration and protection of industrial property rights for famous products of Quang Nam" has been implemented to build scientific grounds, establish the right Intellectual property for traditional products of the province. The provincial People's Committee has also promulgated the Regulation on "Support for the establishment of industrial property rights and the application of advanced quality management systems of enterprises" in the province. Accordingly, when the registration of trademarks and services, the enterprises will be partly funded by the State. State management agencies in science and technology will also advise and guide businesses to complete procedures to register at the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam.
Hopefully, with the concrete impacts of the functional branches and the dynamism of enterprises, production bases, distinctive products, bold identity will constantly reach out, contributing to promote the image. Hoi An - World cultural heritages with international friends.
