1. Lý thuyết liên quan đến Reported Speech - Câu tường thuật
Câu tường thuật (Reported Speech hoặc Indirect Speech) là cách chuyển đổi câu trực tiếp (Direct Speech) thành câu gián tiếp để báo cáo lời nói của người khác mà bạn muốn trình bày. Khi bạn sử dụng Reported Speech, bạn thường thay đổi thì, chủ ngữ, và thay đổi một số từ để phù hợp với ngữ cảnh gián tiếp. Dưới đây là một số lý thuyết cơ bản liên quan đến Reported Speech:
Thay đổi thì:
Các thì thường biến đổi như sau:
Thì hiện tại đơn (Present Simple) -> thì quá khứ đơn (Past Simple).
Thì tương lai đơn (Future Simple) -> thì tương lai trong quá khứ (Future in the Past).
Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn (Present Continuous) -> thì quá khứ tiếp diễn (Past Continuous).
Thì hiện tại hoàn thành (Present Perfect) -> thì quá khứ hoàn thành (Past Perfect).
Thì tương lai hoàn thành (Future Perfect) -> thì tương lai hoàn thành trong quá khứ (Future Perfect in the Past).
Thay đổi chủ ngữ:
Chủ ngữ thường thay đổi để phản ánh người nói câu tường thuật. Ví dụ: "He said, 'I am coming.'" trở thành "He said that he was coming."
Thay đổi các từ chỉ thời gian và địa điểm:
Một số từ chỉ thời gian thường thay đổi như sau:
now -> then (bây giờ -> lúc đó)
today -> that day (hôm nay -> ngày đó)
yesterday -> the day before (hôm qua -> ngày hôm trước)
tomorrow -> the next/following day (ngày mai -> ngày sau đó)
Thay đổi từ:
Một số từ thường thay đổi để phù hợp với ngữ cảnh gián tiếp, ví dụ: here -> there (ở đây -> ở đó), this -> that (này -> kia), these -> those (những cái này -> những cái kia).
Dưới đây là một ví dụ cụ thể để minh họa cách áp dụng Reported Speech:
Câu trực tiếp (Direct Speech):
John said, "I will go to the movies tonight."
Câu tường thuật (Reported Speech):
John said that he would go to the movies that night.
Qua ví dụ trên, bạn có thể thấy cách thay đổi thì, chủ ngữ, và một số từ để chuyển đổi câu trực tiếp thành câu tường thuật. Reported Speech là một phần quan trọng của ngữ pháp tiếng Anh và thường được sử dụng trong việc kể lại câu chuyện hoặc báo cáo lời nói của người khác trong môi trường văn bản hoặc trò chuyện
Lưu ý: Có một số trường hợp không thể thực hiện lùi thì khi chuyển từ câu trực tiếp sang câu gián tiếp trong tiếng Anh:
Nếu động từ tường thuật chia ở thì hiện tại, khi chuyển từ câu trực tiếp sang câu gián tiếp, động từ chính và các trạng từ chỉ nơi chốn/ thời gian được giữ nguyên không đổi.
Ví dụ: My sister says, "I’m going to the supermarket."
-> My sister says she is going to the supermarket.
Nếu diễn tả một sự thật hiển nhiên.
Ví dụ: He said, "The Sun sets in the West."
-> He said that the Sun sets in the West.
Trong câu điều kiện loại II và loại III.
Ví dụ: "If I were you, I would not say that," she said.
-> She said that if she were me, she would not say that.
Trong cấu trúc "Wish + quá khứ đơn/ quá khứ hoàn thành."
Ví dụ: "I wished I lived in Berlin," Jane said.
-> Jane said she wished she lived in Berlin.
Trong cấu trúc "It’s time somebody did something."
Ví dụ: "It’s time he did the washing-up," his mother said.
-> His mother said it was time he did the washing-up.
2. Bài tập liên quan đến câu trần thuật - reported speech
Bài tập 1: Chuyển từ câu trực tiếp sang câu gián tiếp.
She said, "I am going to the party."
He said, "I have finished my homework."
Mary said, "I will meet you at 3 o'clock."
Tom said, "I can swim very well."
They said, "We have been waiting for hours."
Bài tập 2: Chuyển từ câu trực tiếp sang câu gián tiếp với thay đổi thì.
"I am reading a book," he said.
"I will call you later," she said.
"I have never been to Paris," he said.
"I can speak French," she said.
"I had breakfast at 7 AM," he said.
Bài tập 3: Chuyển từ câu gián tiếp sang câu trực tiếp.
She said that she was coming.
He told me that he would help.
They said that they had seen the movie.
She told him that she loved him.
He said that he had finished his work.
Bài tập 4: Chuyển từ câu gián tiếp sang câu trực tiếp với thay đổi thì.
She said that she was going to the store.
He told me that he would visit next week.
They said that they had already eaten lunch.
She told him that she had seen the accident.
He said that he would arrive at 7 PM.
Bài tập 5: Chuyển từ câu trực tiếp sang câu gián tiếp.
"I am going to the cinema," she said.
"He will arrive at 5 PM," he said.
"They have finished their project," they said.
"I can play the guitar," she said.
"We are meeting Tom tomorrow," they said.
Bài tập 6: Chuyển từ câu trực tiếp sang câu gián tiếp với thay đổi thì.
"I read a book," she said.
"I will visit London," he said.
"I have never been to Italy," she said.

“If the weather is fine, I will go on a picnic with my friends,” she said.

“If Today were Sunday, we wouldn’t go to school.” They said to me.
Bài tập 10: Chuyển các câu sau về dạng câu trần thuật
“What would you do if you saw a snake ?” Nam asked Nga.
“Tom would win more races if he trained hard.” , The man said.
“If you feel like a chat, phone me tonight.” David said to me.
"If you isn’t eating so much junk food, you would be a lot fitter.” Mother said.
“I will be surprised if Mary doesn’t pass the exam.” , our teacher said.
