Cách viết thư bằng tiếng Anh

1. Title or Heading

2. Sender's Details and Date

• Sender's Information: Provide your address, phone number, fax, or email at the beginning of the letter, either centered or on the right side. Refrain from using your personal name, unless it's a personal letter. In business correspondence, individuals often prefer using the company name.
• Date: In English, pay attention to date formatting. British convention is day-month-year (06/02/2000), while American convention is month-day-year (02/06/2000). To avoid confusion, use the complete date format, such as 6 February 2000 or February 4th, 2000. This not only prevents misunderstandings but also adds a touch of formality.
• Recipient's Name and Address: Present the recipient's name, title, company name, and address similar to how you presented your information at the beginning of the letter. The key difference is placing the recipient's details on the left side or the right and center.
• Salutation: Begin your letter with an appropriate salutation, such as Dear Mr. Smith, Dear Mrs. Smith, Dear Miss Smith, Dear Ms. Smith, Dear Sir, Dear Madam, Dear Sirs, Dear Gentlemen.

3. Body of the Letter

The body of the letter is structured in well-crafted paragraphs, presenting information clearly and concisely. Start each paragraph from the left margin, avoiding indentation commonly used in traditional letter writing.

This section serves as the core content, delving into the specific topics you're addressing.

4. Closing and Signature

• Complimentary Close: Conclude the letter with a closing phrase. In formal transactions, common British closings include Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Yours truly.
• Signature: Add your full signature and name. If you are attaching documents, you can mention the number of enclosures at the end of the letter (e.g., Enc: 2).

5. Additional Considerations for English Letter Writing

• Avoid Abbreviations: Ensure you write complete forms such as I am, I will, I have seen, I do not instead of I'am, I'll, I don't, I've seen.
• Formal Language: Refrain from using slang, colloquialisms, or informal words like wanna, kid, dad, mate, unless the letter is of an exceptionally informal nature.
